Joel Terriquez, MD
Dr. Joel Terriquez is an internal medicine and infectious disease specialist who serves as medical director of infectious disease and prevention for Northern Arizona Healthcare in Flagstaff, Arizona. He is also the associate chief medical officer (CMO) for Nod Specialists, a multi-state telemedicine company.
Dr. Terriquez graduated from medical school at Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (Mexico) in 2005; His postgraduate medical education was at the University of Arizona in Tucson where he completed his training in Internal medicine (2010) and Infectious disease (2012). Dr. Terriquez had the unique opportunity to obtain additional medical training at MD Anderson in Houston and National Jewish Healthcare in Denver. He also holds a certification in infection control and hospital epidemiology (CIC). He joined Northern Arizona Healthcare in 2012 as an infectious disease consultant for Flagstaff Medical Center and Verde Valley Medical Center. Over the past decade, Dr. Terriquez has been invested in clinical work as an infectious disease consultant and medical director of infectious disease and prevention for NAH where he had the opportunity to participate on different accreditation processes through DNV and The Joint Commission. Joel supports quality initiatives, patient safety event reporting and implementation of interventions to ensure healthcare organizations provide the best care for their patients.
Joel has served as a subject matter experts and guest editor for the development of CDC guidelines for management of bioterrorism agents (plague and tularemia). He received the “Nathan Avery Physician of the Year Award” in 2017. Dr. Terriquez recently graduated from the Safety, Quality, Informatics and Leadership program at Harvard Medical School in early 2023.
Dr. Terriquez’s professional goal is to make a difference in the way we approach patient safety, focusing on prevention of adverse events and healthcare associated infections. He is also passionate about medical education and medical microbiology.
