John F. Prater, DO
John F. Prater, DO developed his interest in medicine while serving as a corpsman with the United States Navy and Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict.
Following his military service, he attended undergraduate and graduate school at the University of Akron and subsequently enrolled in medical school at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Completing his rotation in medicine at Brentwood Hospital, he went on to finish a fellowship in psychiatry at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, establishing a private practice in Ft Myers, Florida, in 1985.
For the majority of his professional career, he practiced psychiatry in Florida, where he held multiple administrative roles, conducted clinical research, served in leadership positions, and instructed students and resident physicians, as well as practicing physicians. He is board-certified and is a fellow of the American College of Neuropsychiatry.
Dr. Prater is the father of four sons and stepfather of three daughters and resides with his wife Lee Ann Kelley (also a psychiatrist) in Phoenix.
