Dr. Geoff Comp is an Associate Program Director for the Creighton University School of Medicine Emergency Medicine Residency at the Valleywise Health Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Geoff participates as a leader, mentor, and advocate for wilderness medicine and EM medical education, with experience lecturing and teaching locally, regionally, and nationally. His professional and research focus includes wilderness medicine, physician wellness, mentorship, and innovation in medical education. He constantly seeks opportunities to combine his interests through collaboration with others and outdoor exploration. Outside of medicine, Dr. Comp can be found running or road biking, trying to find the best Mexican food in Arizona, or chasing his three-year-old twin boys (Austin and Carter) with his wife, Mackenzie.
Dr. Copeland is the Medical Management Medical Director for DDD. She is board certified in family medicine and a fellow of the American Board of Family Physicians. She is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Arizona in the Department of Family, Community and Preventive Medicine.
Dr. Copeland grew up in the northwest Valley and went to the University of Arizona for her undergraduate degree in microbiology. She received her medical degree from Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, PA and completed her family medicine internship and residency at Banner University Medical Center-Phoenix. She was in private practice for many years in southwest Phoenix in an underserved area. She eventually sold her practice to a large health system and worked for them for a few years before working with a community health center. Dr. Copeland then served three years as the Medical Director for Healthcare for the Homeless while it was under the Maricopa County Department of Public Health. Based upon her years of experience, Dr. Copeland understands the importance of having a good support system and social services within the community. As a family physician, Dr. Copeland has always been an advocate of the importance of high-quality healthcare for her patients, including preventive care, regardless of the barriers encountered along the way.
Dr. Copeland is married to Mark, her husband of more than twenty years. They have three teenage sons, two dogs and a cat. As the mother of children with developmental disabilities, she understands the importance of self-advocating and independence, as well as the importance of a strong support system and services. One of her children has cerebral palsy and another is on the autism spectrum. She is very interested in education, accessibility and transitions through life.
Dr. Copeland is excited to work for the Division of Developmental Disabilities in the State of Arizona. She is very interested in making sure that people receive high quality services and are achieving their best potential. She serves on the Board of Ability360 and understands that our society benefits by being more diverse and that services should be more equitable. She enjoys making connections between people and organizations so that they can leverage their strengths. She likes to find solutions and not let things linger unresolved. She believes strongly in prevention but also understands chronic care management. She is a big advocate for integration of all care, since we only have one body that houses our behavioral health and physical health. We need to take care of our whole selves to truly be as healthy as we can.
Dr. Dekker is currently the Chief Medical Officer of the Division of Developmental Disabilities for the State of Arizona. He is committed to the Mission of advocating for our members in DDD. Previously he retired after 37 years of federal service, lastly being a member of the Primary Care Service Line at the Gallup Indian Medical Center in the Indian Health Service.
Born and raised in Western Michigan he graduated from Hope College in Holland Michigan. He completed his Osteopathic education at Michigan State University in 1978. He completed his internship and family medicine residency at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and an Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian-St Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. As a Public Health Service Scholar he served Chicago’s South Side for fourteen years. He was Professor and Chair of Family Medicine at the Kansas City University of Medicine and Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Kansas Medical Center and the University of Missouri-Kansas City (Children’s Mercy Hospital) during his four years in Kansas City. He served in the Indian Health Service from 1998 to 2010 in the Phoenix Indian Medical Center as the Associate Director, Ambulatory Care and Community Health and 2020 to 2022 at the Gallup Indian Medical Center. He also served in the Department of Defense and the Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System.
Dr. Dekker is board certified in Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine, Addiction Medicine and Pain Medicine. He is a Fellow in numerous professional societies. His areas of expertise include developmental disorders, addiction medicine, chronic pain syndromes, infomatics, high risk youth, domestic violence and behavioral health. Past faculty appointments include clinical professorships at George Washington University (Washington DC), and currently at the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine and Andrew Taylor Still University (Mesa, AZ).
Dr. Ernst studied osteopathic medicine at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, then went on to complete Internal Medicine training at the University of Kansas. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine, and currently working on certification in Culinary Medicine. She practices as a primary care physician and is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Midwestern University.
Dr. Levitt is an adult and forensic psychiatrist in the Phoenix area. She completed her training at Maricopa Medical Center. She is employed full-time at Maricopa Integrated Health System in one of the adult inpatient psychiatric units. In her private practice, she provides consultations for criminal and civil matters and provides fitness for duty evaluations in many arenas.
Michael Madsen, MD is board-certified in Anatomic and Forensic Pathology and has been practicing forensic pathology for over ten years. He has worked for Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office for seven years and was appointed as Chief Medical Examiner in March of 2024. Prior to coming to Flagstaff, he worked for six years at the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Ramsey, Minnesota. Dr. Madsen graduated from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 2006 after which he completed pathology residency at the University of Vermont. He then completed his forensic pathology fellowship at the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Dr. Don Middleton is a board-certified physician who has practiced his whole career in Arizona serving patients for two decades in family practice and, for the last 8 years, specifically in addiction medicine. He attended Northern Arizona University where he obtained his pre-med degree in Biology and Nutrition. His medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences was followed by a Family Medicine residency from Flint Osteopathic Hospital before moving back to Arizona to start his practice and family.
During his career he has served various roles in medical education, including Director of Medical Education at Phoenix General Hospital, co-director of family medicine at AZCOM, and founder and director of medical clinics at Midwestern University Glendale campus.
Currently, Dr. Middleton practices addiction medicine at the internationally renowned Meadows Behavior Health, and as medical director for Vital4Men, a chain of men’s health clinics in the Phoenix area. His community service includes acting as the mission’s medical director for Christ Church of the Valley to Kenya and Mexico, CEO and director for the international Christian addiction recovery ministry The Dunamis Initiative, and as the national chairman of addiction medicine for the Christian Medical/Dental Association. He also serves on the Board of trustees of the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association, and the board of directors of Crossroads Inc, the largest addiction rehabilitation hospital in Arizona.
He has been married to Tracy for over 30 years, has four amazing grown children, and loves spending time with his three grandchildren.
Dr. Robert Orenstein is a professor of medicine and a senior fellow in the Academy of Educational Excellence at The Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. He has been the Chair of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Mayo Clinic Arizona since 2012. He is board certified in infectious diseases, internal medicine and certified in Travel medicine and a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. He served as the Editor-in-Chief for the American Osteopathic Association from 2013-2020. Dr. Orenstein is an alumnus of the Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has received numerous awards for his educational efforts, including receiving the 2019 American Academy of Osteopathy’s, Academy Award, its highest service award for a non-member and the 2021 recipient of Mayo’s Above and Beyond Clinician Award.
Dr Orenstein practices infectious diseases at the Mayo Clinic Arizona, Phoenix campus where he sees complex inpatient and outpatient consultations in general and transplant infectious diseases. He is the founder of the Mayo Clinic Microbial Restoration Therapeutics Program and the C. difficile treatment program. He has played a leadership role in organizing Mayo’s response to both the COVID-19 and Monkeypox public health emergencies. He is currently leading a CDC/Arizona Department of Health Services sponsored Emerging Therapeutics Consortium focused on health equity and improving education on emerging infections across the state.
Dr. Shari Pressley is an Arizona native. She was born and raised in Phoenix and moved to Tucson for undergraduate and medical school at the University of Arizona. She moved to Phoenix again for residency at Banner University Medical Center. After residency, she stayed on with her clinic for a number of years seeing patients and educating residents and medical students. She is very excited to be on her next adventure in Flagstaff along with her husband and 2 children.
In her free time, she enjoys quilting, sewing, crafting and gardening.
Prior to starting Sun Valley Arthritis Center, Ltd., Dr. Schechtman completed her fellowship in Rheumatology and Immunology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio from 1983 to 1985. Following this, she developed the first rheumatology clinic in Joliet, IL from 1985 to 1987. In late 1987, she moved to the greater metropolitan Phoenix area which she now considers her home. Following the inception of Sun Valley Arthritis Center, Ltd., located in Phoenix and North Phoenix, she moved the practice in 1989 to the newly built Arrowhead Community Hospital, now Arrowhead Hospital and part of the Abrazo Medical System. Dr. Schechtman has been active at Arrowhead Hospital over the years on the Infectious Disease Committee 1995-1999, Chief of Medicine 1992-1996, Chief of Credentialing Committee 1996-2000, Chief of Staff of Arrowhead Hospital 2000-2004 and member of the Board of Trustees of Arrowhead Hospital from 1999-2016.
She holds a position as Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Midwestern University College of Osteopathic Medicine and the College of Allied Health Professionals at Midwestern University and is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Kirksville College of Medicine and Adjunct Professor at Arizona State University College of Nursing. She is a clinical advisor of Family Practice residents at Phoenix Baptist Hospital and the Internal Medicine and Rheumatology director of the Abrazo Health System. In September 2013, she was selected as the Outstanding Faculty Preceptor at Midwestern University along with being rated as the Top Doctor in Phoenix Magazine from 2003-2021. Dr. Schechtman is presently the Chairman of Arizona United Rheumatology Alliance (AURA) and a member of the Association of Women in Rheumatology. She is a past board member from 2015 to 2021 of the American Arthritis and Rheumatology Association (AARA), a nationwide group of several hundred rheumatologists in active practice and presently is a medical director for AARA.
Dr. Schechtman has participated in over 200 clinical research studies as a principal investigator in areas of research including gout, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), scleroderma, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. She has devoted her time in medical practice caring for adult and pediatric patients with rheumatic diseases and adults with osteoporosis. In addition to her private practice, she has provided services to the Children’s Rehabilitative Service Clinic for 20 years working with children with juvenile rheumatic diseases. Dr. Schechtman is an accomplished medical professional, academician, and humanitarian. She feels very privileged to have had the opportunity to serve the community and to live in such a beautiful state as Arizona.
Dr. Chad Taylor was raised in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. He received his undergraduate education at Minnesota State University and graduated in 2009. Subsequently, Dr. Taylor pursued his doctorate in osteopathic medicine at A.T. Still School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona and graduated in 2013. Dr. Taylor’s passion was rural family medicine and hospitalist medicine. However, after completing his family medicine residency program in 2016, he was recruited by a dermatology practice, Mohave Skin and Cancer Clinic, in Kingman, AZ. He became a partner until the practice was sold in 2021. Dr. Taylor then returned to the only place that has felt like home, Flagstaff, AZ. He practices dermatology and family medicine at Apricus Medical Group’s Flagstaff Family Care, and is the Regional Director of Medical Education for A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Anthony Will is an osteopathic physician that is board certified in both Family Medicine and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Community and Family Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix. He has served in various leadership roles including Department Chairman of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University and Vice Chairman of the Educational Council on Osteopathic Principles and Practice for the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Will is the Senior Medical Director of Village Medical Arizona with oversight of clinical operations for Phoenix. He is also currently active in patient care and teaching at Village Medical in Glendale, AZ.
Dr. Will completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pittsburgh and completed both his medical school and residency training at Midwestern University.
