Michael Bowen, M.D. is a practicing physician who is board-certified in both psychiatry and sleep medicine.  He is a former active duty Navy psychiatrist who spent eight years treating Sailors and Marines in both the hospital and operational settings.  His interest in sleep medicine stems from the recognition that disruption of sleep is very common and represents an important focus of psychiatric treatment.  Sleep that is disrupted by psychiatric illness does not always resolve with other psychiatric symptoms, and if poor sleep is left unaddressed, it may become a risk factor for future mental health concerns. 

Dr. Bowen received his undergraduate training anthropology at Harvard College and completed his medical training at The Ohio State University College of Medicine.  He completed his psychiatry residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego, where in his final year he served as a chief resident.  After four years of psychiatric practice post-residency training, he began a fellowship in sleep medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, which he completed in July 2023.  He has also received the Certificate of Additional Training in Sports Psychiatry from the International Society of Sports Psychiatry.  He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and the International Society of Sports Psychiatry.

Dr. Bryman has been practicing medicine in Arizona since 1988 and is currently the Medical Director of the Emergency Department at The Norther Arizona Veterans Hospital in Prescott, AZ.

Dr. Bryman has been a volunteer physician his entire career. His volunteer activities have included helping underserved populations in Mexico, Kenya, Cambodia and here in Arizona working with the homeless.

Karen J. Nichols, DO, MA, MACOI, CS is most recently the Dean of the Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine serving since 2002 until stepping down July 2018. She took a leave to serve as President of the American Osteopathic Association 2010-2011. Prior to serving as Dean, she was Assistant Dean, Post-Doctoral Education and Division Director (chair), Internal Medicine at the Midwestern University/Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine since 1997. She was in the private practice of internal medicine and geriatrics in Mesa, Arizona from 1985 through 2002. A graduate of the Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine (KCU-COM) with a DO degree, she holds a Master’s degree in Management with a specialty in Healthcare Administration from Central Michigan University. In 2015, she was selected for the highest honor given by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), the Distinguished Service Award as well as receiving a Presidential Citation in 2018. In 2015, she received the Robert A. Kistner, DO Award and then in 2020, received the Dale Dodson, DO Award, the two highest honors bestowed by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine. She has received numerous other awards.

She has served as President of the American Osteopathic Association, President of the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association and President of the American College of Osteopathic Internists and was the first woman to hold all those positions. She is Past President of the Institute of Medicine of Chicago Board of Governors. Dr. Nichols is one of the two first DOs nominated by the AOA and elected to the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education board. She is the Chair of that board and serves on the Executive Committee and Policy Committee.

Dr. Nichols has served on the boards of the Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Osteopathic International Alliance and the American Osteopathic Foundation.  By invitation she frequently speaks nationally on leadership, end-of-life care and outreach issues for osteopathic medicine. She is also authoring a book on Leadership for Physicians.

Dominique Roe-Sepowitz is an associate professor in the School of Social Work at Arizona State University, and she is the director of the ASU Office of Sex Trafficking Intervention Research. Roe-Sepowitz has her master’s degree and doctorate in social work and is a researcher, professor and a forensic social work practitioner. 

Dominique teaches in the clinical track of the masters of social work program as well as provides clinical intervention groups focused on abuse and trauma in the community to women and men exiting prostitution.  Dominique's research focus is on women and violence with a focus on prostitution and the therapeutic needs for exiting.  Her expertise includes sex trafficker profiles, establishing a prevalence of sex buyers, and sex trafficking victim prevention and intervention design.  Dominique works very closely with community groups including the Phoenix Police Department, the Phoenix Prosecutor's Office and Catholic Charities DIGNITY programs.  Her research work spans the prevention, detection, identification and trauma-focused treatment of sex trafficking victims. 

Recent projects include estimations of online sex buying demand, estimating the prevalence of sex trafficking victims within the juvenile delinquency and adult probation systems in Arizona, surveying Arizona’s homeless young adults about their sex trafficking experiences (Youth Experiences Survey), studying patterns within arrest cases of traffickers, exploring sex ads and demand response around the Super Bowl in 2014 and 2015, and evaluating interventions for sex trafficking victims.  Community partnerships for developing new knowledge about sex trafficking include the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Phoenix Police Department, and the Tucson Police Departments.  Dominique has conducted research with partners including Thorn: Digital Defenders of Children, Shared Hope International, and Demand Abolition.  Community interventions that Dominique has helped to develop includes Project ROSE,  the Phoenix 1st Step Drop-in Center, and Project STARFISH education.  Dominique also co-created an eleven-week psychoeducation group provided at ten locations around Arizona entitled Sex Trafficking Awareness and Recovery.

Dr Shprecher is Movement Disorders Director for Banner Research and Clinical Associate Professor for University of Arizona-Phoenix.

Dr. Shprecher completed a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Neurology residency at the University of Utah. He completed his movement disorders/experimental therapeutics fellowship and Masters in Clinical Investigation at the University of Rochester.

Inspired by personal experience as an individual with Tourette syndrome, he has dedicated his career to improving treatment options and quality of life for movement disorder patients. His collaborative research is aimed at improving early diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson's and related diseases. Dr. Miran Song graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from Albany Medical College after which she completed her Pediatric Residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. She was chosen as a National Health Service Corps Scholar and did her service at the Kayenta Indian Health Service Clinic on the Navajo Reservation. She continued her work on the Navajo Reservation in Tuba City doing outpatient, inpatient and Level II Nursery care. Dr. Song gained a wealth of medical and culture knowledge while working on the Navajo Reservation for 16 years.

In 2015, she began working at North Country HealthCare, a Federally Qualified Health Center, where she continues to serve a diverse pediatric population of underserved children. Dr. Song has maintained a love for public health, especially for children and families in need. Dr Song specializes in Navajo/Hopi specific illnesses and complex special needs children.

CAPT (ret.) Tang retired from the USPHS as of November 1, 2023 after 22 years of service in the Navajo Nation as a senior medical officer of the USPHS and the US Navy. CAPT(ret.) served more than three of those years in the US Navy as a general medical officer serving with the US Marines at Camp Pendleton, culminating in a six-month Western Pacific deployment to the Western Pacific, Middle East in deserts of Jordan, Saudi Arabia ending on September 13, 2001. After US Naval service, then LT Tang returned to the remaining 2 years of family medicine residency at Fireland Regional Medical Center before joining Tuba City Regional Health Care Corp for the past 20 years.

CAPT(ret.) Tang was an adjunct faculty at three medical schools, Dartmouth, U of A and Western University, and gave over 50 speaking engagements at regional and national conferences in the past 12 years. CAPT (ret.) Tang is continuing his mission of teaching on public health, primary care issues in retirement. Hopefully, teaching the next generation of professionals to prepare for the unexpected.

Dr. Tariot is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry with added qualifications in geriatrics.  He was as a Fellow at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Intramural Research Program, then served as a faculty member at the University of Rochester Medical Center and, since 2006, he has served as Director of the Banner Alzheimer’s Institute in Phoenix. He is also a Research Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. His work has focused on care and study of people with and at risk for Alzheimer’s, with emphasis on design and implementation of clinical trials for prevention and treatment, development of biomarkers, characterization and treatment of neuropsychiatric features of dementia, and demonstration of effective dementia care. His clinical efforts have included planning, funding, and implementing several care initiatives for persons with dementia, including a Project ECHO program and “Dementia Care Partners,” a novel program in which unskilled health coaches are trained to support families dealing with dementia in Banner’s primary care clinics. He teaches undergraduates, medical students, residents, and fellows. His experience includes conceiving, funding, and implementing single center and multicenter trials, and serving as Principal Investigator on over 50 clinical trials related to Alzheimer’s and related dementias. He has published over 450 papers on these topics including those regarding studies that have led to FDA approval of new medications. He serves as co-director of the international Alzheimer’s Prevention Initiative (API). This work includes the creation of pre-enrollment registries in Colombia and the US (the Alzheimer’s Prevention Registry and the related GeneMatch program); fluid and imaging biomarker studies; studies of genetic risk and protective factors; development of novel clinical outcomes for preclinical treatment research; the API Autosomal Dominant AD prevention trial of crenezumab in cognitively unimpaired people destined to develop early onset AD in Colombia, launched in 2013; the global API APOE4 homozygote prevention trial (Generation Study 1) launched in 2015 of an active immunotherapy as well as a BACE inhibitor in cognitively unimpaired people at risk for late onset AD; and the global API Generation Study 2, studying a BACE inhibitor in APOE4 carriers: the two trials were known as the API Generation Program. In partnership with Lilly, he and his colleagues help oversee the “Trailblazer 3” Alzheimer’s prevention trial. His research affiliations include the National Institute on Aging (NIA), the NIMH, and the Alzheimer’s Association and he is a Fellow of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology.
