Dr. Abreu is a Hospice and Palliative Medicine physician at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona. He is passionate about education in hospice and palliative care and is co-author of the book, Death and Dying, published by The MIT Press, 2021. He also serves as Director of Medical Education developing and overseeing the hospice rotations and electives of medical students, residents, and fellows.
Dr. Ayad Agha, DO brings an unmatched background including a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology and Interventional Oncology from the University of California-San Diego, a Doctorate of Pharmacy from The Ohio State University, a Masters in Nuclear Pharmacy from the University of Southern California, and a Medical Degree from Midwestern University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Agha is certified by the American Board of Radiology, an associate professor of diagnostic and interventional radiology at the University of Arizona Medical School, a clinical professor of the health and science department at Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University, and a medical consultant with product design in the field of interventional radiology.
Fellowship-trained and board-certified in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of California San Diego, he offers a unique approach to problem-solving. Dr. Agha has held leadership positions and trains physicians in private and academic settings. A frequent Phoenix Magazine Top Doc, he is at the forefront of the future of medicine and now brings this passion for educating clients and providers.
Dr. Ambrosia is an interventional cardiologist specializing in coronary artery disease, heart failure, hypertensive heart disease, stroke and carotid artery disease, coronary angiography and angioplasty, carotid angioplasty and stenting, TEE, PFO closure, renal artery angioplasty and stenting, and TAVI procedure.
Dr. Ambrosia is board certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He received his osteopathic medical degree from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific. Dr. Ambrosia practices with Cardiovascular Associates of Mesa.
John Ashurst DO, EdD, MS currently serves as the assistant designated institutional official at Kingman Regional Medical Center and as a clinical assistant professor at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. Since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, he has completed numerous research projects on the treatment of COVID-19 and has spoken at both the national and international level on new and emerging treatment strategies with a focus on those in either underserved or rural areas. Currently he teaches evidence-based medicine throughout the valley and has a research interest in osteopathic techniques for the treatment of lymphedema and COVID-19.
Dr. Baik joined City of Hope® Cancer Center Phoenix in 2021 after serving patients since 2014 at multiple City of Hope locations (then Cancer Treatment Centers of America). As a thoracic surgeon, Dr. Baik works with a multidisciplinary team to evaluate and treat patients with thoracic tumors, including lung cancer and benign lung disease. He is highly skilled in robotic, minimally invasive and open thoracic surgical procedures.
Dr. Baik completed his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine followed by several years of specialty training. After interning for a year at the Brown Family Residency Program, he was a resident in general surgery at St. Barnabas Hospital and then at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. Dr. Baik completed his specialty training with a residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Hospital and a fellowship in minimally invasive esophageal and thoracic surgery at Swedish Medical Center.
Dr. Baik is board certified in general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery and is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, International Association for Study of Lung Cancer, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Surgeons and American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. He also still serves patients at City of Hope Cancer Center Chicago.
William James Brooks, DO received his Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) in 1980 and Board Certification in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) 1991. In 1981 he began a practice devoted to OMM as a protégé of Robert Fulford, DO. Since then, Dr. Brooks has developed and continued to refine his creative work: the “Functional Pathology of the Musculoskeletal System” paradigm is a construct valid, unifying scientific model that includes an objective diagnostic method for more effective use of OMT and related rehabilitative exercise.
Throughout his career Dr. Brooks’ clinical focus has been caring for patients with multiregional, chronic, tertiary musculoskeletal pain syndromes including headache. Additionally, he has helped patients recover from persistent post-concussion syndrome as well as pediatric patients with various developmental delays.

Motivated by his clinical and academic success, he is writing two books: A Treatise on the Functional Pathology of the Musculoskeletal System—Introduction and Advanced, the first of which was published in 2022 (Introduction) and second of which (Advanced) is in preparation. He offers continuing medical education seminars on this model and method. He continues to participate in OMM research.
Dr. Theresa W. Chan joined Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers in October 2021. Dr. Chan completed her Breast Surgical Oncology fellowship at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) where she trained with leaders in the field of personalized and precision breast cancer management. She has a special interest in women’s health which drew her to breast surgery and in evaluating the under- and overtreatment of breast cancer.
Dr. Chan earned her Bachelor of Science degree and Master of Engineering degree in Biomedical Engineering at Cornell University. After completing her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati, she trained in general surgery at the University of California San Diego (UCSD). Throughout her training, she has focused on not only refining her technical expertise but also tackling critical questions to advance the medical field and improve patient care. She was the 2017 recipient of the Shock Society Research Investigator Fellowship award and studied the human-specific response to inflammation. As a trauma research fellow at UCSD, she analyzed molecular mechanisms that modulate pathways in the human response to injury. She has presented at multiple conferences for professional organizations and has received national awards.
Dr. Chan treats both benign and malignant breast conditions and focuses on a multidisciplinary, evidence-based approach to caring for each patient as a whole individual. Her training in breast surgery enables her to offer patients comprehensive breast cancer care in collaboration with Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, and Plastic Surgery. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Association for Academic Surgery, American Society of Breast Surgeons, and Society of Surgical Oncology.
Anthony Chang, MD, MBA, MPH, MS is a pediatric cardiologist and Medical Director of the Heart Failure Program at Children’s Hospital of Orange County. Dr. Chang serves as Chief Intelligence and Innovation Officer of CHOC Sharon Disney Lund Medical Intelligence, Information, Investigation and Innovation Institute (Mi4). The Institute is the hub of medical intelligence and innovation at CHOC, and also serves as a national and international leader. Mi4 was the first institute of its kind in a children’s hospital. Dr. Chang completed his Master of Science (MS) in Data Science with a sub-specialization in artificial intelligence from Stanford School of Medicine and has completed a certification on artificial intelligence from MIT. Dr. Chang has a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in Health Care Administration from the University of Miami School of Business and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) in Health Care Policy from the Jonathan Fielding School of Public Health of the University of California, Los Angeles.
Dr. Chang is the founder of the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Society (PCICS) and the founder of the Asia-Pacific Pediatric Cardiac Society (APPCS). He started a pediatric innovation leadership group whose bi-annual symposium Pediatrics2040: Emerging Trends and Future Innovations has become a catalyst for the International Society for Pediatric Innovation (iSPI). Each summer, the Mi4 Summer Internship Program, founded by Dr. Chang, mentors close to 75 young future clinicians. Dr. Chang’s book, Intelligence-Based Medicine is the first of its kind textbook on AI in medicine and is used at colleges and universities around the globe. He is the founder and organizing chair of several Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (AI Med) that hosts meetings in the U.S. and abroad (Europe and Asia) focusing on artificial intelligence in healthcare and medicine (www.ai-med.io). He is also the founder the Medical Intelligence Society (MIS), the American Board of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (ACAIM), and the Alliance of Centers in Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (ACAIM) and the Pediatric Centers of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine (PCAIM), now with nearly 100 participating centers from around the globe.
Dr. William Devine has always had an interest in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM). He comes from a family of osteopathic physicians, including his father and two uncles. He was born at the maternity hospital on the campus at Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine where he delivered his first as a medical student. After osteopathic medical school he expanded his interests in osteopathic manual medicine along with interests in medical education, medical history, medical research, and medical health policy. He integrated osteopathic concepts and philosophy into his present osteopathic manual medicine practice as it relates to Osteopathy. He is nationally and internationally known and respected as a lecturer and author of topics in osteopathic manipulative medicine.
He left his active osteopathic family practice 1996, to become one of the original founders of the new Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine campus and served for 26 years achieving the rank of Clinical Professor. At MWU and presently he continues postgraduate osteopathic teaching and a private practice He has presented at workshops, keynote presentations at the AzAO, AAO, AOMA and internationally in the UK, Italy, Germany, Taiwan, Turkiye, Denmark and Norway. He has been honored with many awards over the years for his service to osteopathic medicine and teaching with the most prestigious Andrew Taylor Still Medallion of Honor Award conferred by the American Academy of Osteopathy in 2025.
Today he is recognized by many medical organizations nationally and internationally in his medical specialty of Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (NMM and OMM). He has co-authored two textbooks on Clinical Counterstrain Osteopathic Manipulation and has written and coauthored chapters in five medical textbooks, and many research papers. He has presented nationally and internationally with keynote addresses, workshops, and lectures. He is board certified in family medicine and OMT, as well as neuromusculoskeletal medicine and osteopathic manipulative medicine. He had Fellowship training at the Research Center in Fort Worth, Texas. His private practice in now is focused on neuromusculoskeletal medicine and osteopathic manipulative medicine.
And he continues to teach post graduate medical education as a Clinical Professor at Midwestern University, Arizona Post Graduate Medical Education program and he teaches at ATSU SOMA, as faculty in the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, and continues to teach at state, national and international presentations.
David Duggan, Ph.D., is a renowned scientist, market and technical analyst, and early-stage commercialization strategist; with over 30 yrs of scientific expertise, 20 yrs of experience advising equity management firms, and 13 yrs of experience fostering the growth of early-stage ventures. Dr. Duggan is dedicated to conducting collaborative research, forming industry partnerships, and exploring commercialization opportunities that emphasize translating scientific discoveries into practical applications. His work spans family- and population-based research studies, clinical implementation studies, and the evaluation of the utility, cost-benefit and practical use of both existing and emerging technologies. His primary focus is on understanding the genetic underpinnings of complex diseases such as cancer. His research laboratory has generated data for over 300,000 patient samples. Dr. Duggan has authored nearly 200 scientific articles, 6 invited reviews, 4 book chapters, and co-edited a book on Oncogenomics.
Currently, his efforts are focused on the clinical validation and implementation of risk stratification and early detection technologies such as polygenic risk scores. These scores, which estimate an individual’s lifetime risk of developing certain diseases based on their genomic information, can be used to assess personal disease risk, analyze population-level risk, select samples for further investigation, and match patients with drugs most likely to benefit them. Dr. Duggan works closely with the executive and health ventures teams to integrate innovative genomic-based tools into clinical practice. In this capacity, he provides scientific expertise, evaluates staffing needs, develops and oversees logistical planning, and explores strategic partnerships as required. His efforts focus on advancing technologies that (1) pinpoint individuals with a high lifetime risk of certain diseases, (2) facilitate early disease detection - when survival rates are highest, and (3) deliver educational initiatives, such as continuing medical education seminars. These initiatives are often tailored for healthcare partners, including healthcare systems and networks, where novel clinical-genomic insights are shared with physicians, healthcare professionals, and patients.
Dr. Duggan received his Ph.D. from the Human Genetic Department, School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh (1997). He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in the Cancer Genetics Branch, National Human Genome Research Institute, National Institutes of Health (1998-2003).
Kaleo Ede, MD is the Director of Pediatric Rheumatology fellowship program and the Director of Research and Quality Improvement for the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at Phoenix Children’s. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, as well as holding faculty positions at Creighton University Medical School Phoenix campus and the Mayo Clinic Medical School Scottsdale campus. He completed his pediatric rheumatology fellowship from UCLA and his residency at the University of Arizona Combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics program. His research interests include basic science research in the etiopathogenesis of antiphospholipid syndrome and clinic research trials in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis and childhood lupus. He has been a staff pediatric rheumatologist at Phoenix Children’s since 2008.
Dr. Finch graduated from Des Moines University, College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine. He did his Emergency Medicine residency at Maricopa Medical Center, Phoenix, Arizona, and currently works as an emergency physician in Scottsdale. Dr. Finch has been with MWU/AZCOM since 2000. In addition to his duties as Department Chair, he is the director of the longitudinal ultrasound curriculum, teaches in the second year Introduction to Clinical Medicine course, and directs courses in Emergency Medical Services, Ultrasound, and Introduction to Radiology. He is a Fellow of the National Association of Medical Educators (NAOME) and actively engaged in numerous committees with NAOME and the AACOM. Dr. Finch is involved with the NBOME as Chair of Professionalism and Communication, Past Chair of the COMLEX Level 2 CE, and is an item test writer for the NBOME and USMLE board examinations. Dr. Finch serves as the Speaker of the House of Delegates for the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association and is currently the Chair of the Annual AOMA Case and Poster Forum. Dr. Finch completed a Health Policy Fellowship with the American Osteopathic Association in 2002, and the Costin Institute for Medical Education in 2005. In his free time, Dr. Finch serves as the Founder and Camp Director for Camp Paz, a statewide bereavement program for children and adults who have experienced a death in their life.
A native of Boston, MA, Gary graduated from Northwestern University with a BS in Communication Studies in 1992. Gary was an OMM scholar during his undergraduate years and graduated with honors in 2009. He is a graduate of MWU-AZCOM in 2009 and the NMM/OMM Residency Program at St Barnabas Hospital in 2012. He became Program Director of the ONMM3 Residency in 2021 and has been working with resident and medical student education at Midwestern University and Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine since 2012. His professional experience includes designing the current residency curriculum and participating as residency faculty for over 12 years. Dr. Gailius has practiced OMM at the MWU multispecialty clinic since 2012, focusing on cranial osteopathy, prolotherapy/PRP, sports medicine, and OMM for newborns and children.
Dr. Goettl is a board-certified interventional radiologist, performing a wide variety of minimally invasive image-guided procedures. He has a special interest in treating liver cancer and complex vascular diseases.
After graduating from the University of Notre Dame with degrees in pre-medical studies and a master’s in business administration, Dr. Goettl worked as a management consultant for McKinsey and Company prior to medical school. He graduated from the University of Arizona College of Medicine’s Phoenix campus in 2012. He completed his radiology residency at the University of Illinois Chicago, where he served as chief resident in radiology. He completed his fellowship training in Interventional Radiology at Stanford University.
Since 2018, Dr. Goettl has worked as an interventional radiologist at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix and serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix. Dr. Goettl serves as Director of the Interventional Procedural Simulation Program at the College of Medicine’s Center for Simulation and Innovation, training medical students on a unique interventional procedural simulation platform. He also works as a physician consultant, teaching physicians around the country about the performance of Y90 radioembolization procedures.
Dr. Goettl is an active member of the Society of Interventional Radiology, the Outpatient Endovascular and Interventional Society, and the Radiological Society of North America. In his spare time, he enjoys golf, basketball, cycling, eating sandwiches, and spending time with his wife and two children.
Dr. Ashu Goyle is a double board certified, fellowship trained anesthesiologist and interventional pain specialist. His Pain Medicine Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic afforded him the unique opportunity to not only train at one of the nation’s top hospitals and teaching institutions, but also with the world’s leaders in pain medicine. While at Cleveland Clinic he received extensive training in acute and chronic pain management. Dr. Goyle believes in delivering the highest quality, individualized care to each patient. His focus is on non-narcotic, minimally invasive modalities to help patients return to their optimal function and health. Dr. Goyle also has a special interest in holistic and functional medicine and in helping patients maintain wellness with lifestyle changes and nutritional support. Having trained in functional medicine through the Institute For Functional Medicine’s “Applying Functional Medicine In Clinical Practice”, Dr. Goyle believes in treating the whole person to help them reach their desired state of health and wellbeing.
Dr. Goyle offers multiple modalities to help people manage their pain and live a desired quality of life. These modalities include spinal injections, radiofrequency ablation, neuromodulation (spinal cord stimulator), musculoskeletal and joint injections as well as diet and healthy lifestyle changes. He is well versed in interventional and multimodal pain management and has special interest in applying the innovative field of regenerative medicine to help treat acute and chronic pain conditions.
Dr. Horlick is a Board-Certified Pediatrician with over 25 years of experience in the Phoenix area. After relocating to Arizona from central Illinois, Dr. Horlick attended the University of Arizona College of Medicine and completed her pediatric residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Since returning to Arizona in 1999, she has been dedicated to providing high-quality pediatric care and has recently joined Midwestern University as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in January 2025.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Horlick is deeply passionate about preventive medicine and its ability to empower families to live healthier lives. She has a particular interest in nutrition, fitness and eating disorders, areas she believes are vital in combating the current obesity epidemic. To expand her expertise, she joined the Phoenix Children’s Hospital CARE team, where she honed her skills in caring for children and adolescents affected by obesity and its related conditions. In 2022, Dr. Horlick furthered her commitment to this field by attaining Board Certification in Obesity Medicine, and she aims to contribute to the growth of a Pediatric Obesity Program at Midwestern University.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Dr. Horlick enjoys an active lifestyle, including yoga, Peloton cycling, and healthy cooking. She values spending time with her family and lives in the Phoenix area with her husband, Mitch, and their two children, who are currently in college.
Dr. Keane currently works as an Assistant Professor, Medical Director of the Osteopathic Medicine Center Arizona and Chair of the Osteopathic Principles and Practice Department within the School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona on the A.T. Still University Mesa Campus. In his continued learning, he has been focused on pain management, especially chronic pain and the associated hypo-dopaminergic state, as well as treatment of opioid addiction, PTSD, and neurophysiologic mechanisms of pain. Having recently moved from the clinical to medical education arena, he is excited to serve as co-investigator for the proposed project, Noninvasive multiparametric characterization of myofascial pain syndrome and its responses to osteopathic manipulative treatment.
After decades of managing on his own health and wellness interests, initially with Tai Chi/Traditional Chinese Medicine and self-guided learning about nutrition, he left a developing career in public policy to more directly use the knowledge and skills he had learned to help others with their health. The idea of becoming a physician to help reduce suffering was irresistible. After several years of pre-medical training, he was accepted to medical school. After completing an internal medicine residency and board certification (he is currently a Fellow in the American College of Osteopathic Internists and in the American College of Physicians), a secondary board-certification in integrative holistic medicine and extensive post-graduate training in osteopathic manipulative medicine, he continues to look for opportunities to enrich his understanding and practice of medicine. Thus, he is especially grateful for this opportunity to blend the art of osteopathic clinical care with the science of evidence based assessment and objective analysis. He feels that his experience, particularly with regard to clinical care, osteopathic principles, and osteopathic manipulative medicine, makes him qualified to provide expertise in the design, development, and implementation of the study proposed in this application.
Originally from Minnesota, Dr. Klatt attended AZCOM for medical school. She then went on to complete a family medicine residency, where she developed a passion for preventive and metabolic health. After obtaining an additional board certification in obesity medicine, Dr. Klatt has returned to her alma mater, where she now teaches and practices. She enjoys helping her patients optimize their health and quality of life and looks forward to working with the next generation of osteopathic physicians.
Kerry Knievel is a professor of neurology and director of the Lewis Headache Center at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix AZ. She received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed Neurology residency and fellowship at Barrow Neurological Institute. She is president of the Arizona Neurological Society and Headache Cooperative of the Pacific.
Dr. Levitt is an adult and forensic psychiatrist. She has been working in Arizona for almost 35 years. She is an attending psychiatrist at Valleywise Behavioral Health and has a private practice offering forensic consultations.
Dr. Levitt graduated from residency at Maricopa Medical Center (now Valleywise.) Her practice as an adult psychiatrist has always focused on the Seriously Mentally Ill. She has worked in various hospitals, both public and private. She worked in the correctional field for over 10 years. Her forensic practice currently focuses on fitness for duty and guardianship work, but she also continues to provide consultation in the civil and criminal arena.
Dr. Mascaro has been practicing medicine for almost 55 years. Recently he has noticed how much Americans spend on medical care {about $3.3 trillion yearly}. We are way ahead of civilized nations in technology, but 46th ranked in patient outcomes. Instead of getting better we are on a course to inflate those numbers and perhaps take away from our patients any chance to age successfully.
It becomes clear to Dr. Mascaro that after all these years of gaining wisdom and understanding, that the only way to achieve change is to.... make America healthier. The current system of managing disease, which we shall call, the mainstream misconception, is making people more chronically ill, disabled, thereby decreasing their quality of life. People, please listen......... it just doesn't work.
It would make sense to seek a discipline that would offer to increase vitality, give hope, while not managing symptoms. We all would be much better off. The answer my friends, is right in front of us and it’s been here for one hundred sixty-nine years. Its name you ask......Osteopathic medicine -and it's America's only answer. The challenge though is finding the right D.O., one who understands and practices the concept of optimum wellness.
Dr. Michael McBride is a board-certified dermatologist with extensive training and experience in both clinical practice and dermatologic research. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he also served as Clinical Campus Representative. Dr. McBride completed his dermatology residency at HonorHealth in Phoenix, where he was recognized as Chief Resident and contributed to several program initiatives. His clinical expertise spans a broad range of dermatologic conditions, from skin cancers to inflammatory skin diseases and advanced procedural dermatology.
Dr. McBride is also dedicated to advancing the field of dermatology through research, with a focus on innovative treatments and clinical outcomes. His research experience includes contributions to studies on cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, pediatric inflammatory bowel disease, and energy-based dermatologic treatments. In addition to his clinical and research work, Dr. McBride is passionate about medical education, regularly delivering lectures and presentations at national conferences. He is also a recognized leader, having been selected for the prestigious AAD Leadership Forum, further emphasizing his commitment to both personal and professional growth in the field of dermatology.
Dr. Ambrose F. Panico, is a board certified Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiologist and is the Medical Director of EP at Cardiovascular Associates of Mesa. In addition, he is the Medical Director of the Cath/EP Lab at Banner Heart and is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona - Phoenix.
Dr. Panico shares his philosophy on being a medical professional. “It is an honor and a privilege to practice medicine and the physician-patient relationship is what makes my job so special. Each patient is unique and deserves an individualized treatment plan, which we will work together to create. I will ensure that patients feel comfortable, confident and empowered to improve their cardiovascular and overall health.”
Dr. Tamzid Rahman is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and eye surgeon with American Vision Partners in Phoenix, AZ. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of eye diseases, including cataracts and glaucoma. Besides being proficient with cataract surgery (utilizing both traditional and advanced techniques with premium lens technologies), Dr. Rahman also performs micro-invasive and laser glaucoma surgeries.
He attended the University of Miami for an undergraduate degree in Neurobiology and Chemistry, followed by a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) degree from the same institution. Dr. Rahman then attended Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in Glendale, Arizona for his medical degree. He later pursued a year of clinical ophthalmology research at Maine Eye Center (Portland, Maine) and Tufts University (Boston, Massachusetts) before returning to Phoenix to complete a year of Internal Medicine residency at Valleywise Hospital/Creighton University. Afterwards, he completed his ophthalmology training at Larkin Community Hospital/Nova Southeastern University in Miami, Florida, where he served as Chief Resident.
Dr. Rashid attended UCLA on an academic scholarship and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He later attended medical school at Midwestern University (where he met his future wife, who is now a physician-partner with Affiliated Hospitalists in Phoenix and Scottsdale). Dr. Rashid started his residency training in Anesthesiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center but soon realized his passion for Internal Medicine and managing complex diseases. He completed an Internal Medicine residency at Methodist Dallas Medical Center and served as Chief Resident. He then returned to Arizona to complete his Rheumatology fellowship at the University of Arizona in Tucson and served as Chief Fellow during his final year of fellowship.
Dr. Rashid is board-certified in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and teaches the joint aspiration and injection workshop at the annual American College of Physicians national meeting. He has a strong interest in medical education and has been appointed Clinical Assistant Professor by AZCOM/Midwestern University, University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix, and Creighton University School of Medicine. In addition to giving traditional clinical rheumatology lectures at the medical schools, he frequently has medical students rotating with him in his clinic.
He is the team rheumatologist for the Cincinnati Reds during their Arizona activities and has helped high-performing athletes recover from rheumatologic diseases and return to various levels of professional baseball, including Major League Baseball.
Serving on the Board of Trustees of the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association has allowed him and other physicians to strongly advocate for patients to receive the medical treatments they deserve.
Dr. Richie attended medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1995. He completed is residency at Rush University and Sports Medicine fellowship at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL.
He is in is 20th year teaching at Midwestern University in Glendale and 21st year working for the Milwaukee Brewer Baseball Team. He is in his 26th year of private practice currently working at Amazon One Medical.

Dr. Rosenberg graduated from Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in 2003. After completing his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Nevada, Reno he went into private practice. Dr. Rosenberg has been a hospitalist since 2007. He’s worked for Apogee Physicians since 2010 as a hospitalist, medical director, and Vice President of Clinical Operations. In 2019, Dr. Rosenberg became Division President. As Division President, Dr. Rosenberg oversees hospitalist programs operations in 13-states, overseeing 287-hospitalists in 24-hospitals.
Christine Saraceni, DO, MS attended medical school at Midwestern University, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. She graduated in the class of 2009. She also obtained a Masters degree in microbiology at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and graduated in 2004.She completed her osteopathic internship at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida and graduated in the class of 2010. She did her internal medicine residency and hematology oncology fellowship training at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Allentown, PA where she served as the chief hematology oncology fellow. She is board-certified in internal medicine, hematology, and medical oncology.
She joined Ironwood Cancer & Research Centers in August 2016 where she specializes in adult cancers and hematologic disorders. She values medical education and continues to mentor medical students and residents in her clinic. She has special interest in women's health and breast cancer, melanoma, and multiple myeloma. She is research oriented and has published multiple articles in peer- reviewed journals and has presented at national and regional professional meetings. She is married and enjoys spending her free time doing competitive cycling and snowboarding. She has also been a captain of women’s cycling racing teams. She is dedicated to improving health and to supporting each of her patients journey with cancer with a personalized, patient- focused approach. She also strives to bring the latest advancements in delivery of cancer care and therapeutics to each of her patients.

Prior to starting Sun Valley Arthritis Center, Ltd., Dr. Schechtman completed her fellowship in Rheumatology and Immunology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio from 1983 to 1985. Following this, she developed the first rheumatology clinic in Joliet, IL from 1985 to 1987. In late 1987, she moved to the greater metropolitan Phoenix area which she now considers her home. Following the inception of Sun Valley Arthritis Center, Ltd., located in Phoenix and North Phoenix, she moved the practice in 1989 to the newly built Arrowhead Community Hospital, now Arrowhead Hospital and part of the Abrazo Medical System. Dr. Schechtman has been active at Arrowhead Hospital over the years on the Infectious Disease Committee 1995-1999, Chief of Medicine 1992-1996, Chief of Credentialing Committee 1996-2000, Chief of Staff of Arrowhead Hospital 2000-2004 and member of the Board of Trustees of Arrowhead Hospital from 1999-2016.
She holds a position as Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Midwestern University College of Osteopathic Medicine and the College of Allied Health Professionals at Midwestern University and is an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Kirksville College of Medicine and Adjunct Professor at Arizona State University College of Nursing. She is a clinical advisor of Family Practice residents at Phoenix Baptist Hospital and the Internal Medicine and Rheumatology director of the Abrazo Health System. In September 2013, she was selected as the Outstanding Faculty Preceptor at Midwestern University along with being rated as the Top Doctor in Phoenix Magazine from 2003-2021. Dr. Schechtman is presently the Chairman of Arizona United Rheumatology Alliance (AURA) and a member of the Association of Women in Rheumatology. She is a past board member from 2015 to 2021 of the American Arthritis and Rheumatology Association (AARA), a nationwide group of several hundred rheumatologists in active practice and presently is a medical director for AARA.
Dr. Schechtman has participated in over 200 clinical research studies as a principal investigator in areas of research including gout, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), scleroderma, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. She has devoted her time in medical practice caring for adult and pediatric patients with rheumatic diseases and adults with osteoporosis. In addition to her private practice, she has provided services to the Children’s Rehabilitative Service Clinic for 20 years working with children with juvenile rheumatic diseases. Dr. Schechtman is an accomplished medical professional, academician, and humanitarian. Dr. Shprecher is Movement Disorders Director for Banner Research and Clinical Associate Professor for University of Arizona-Phoenix.
Dr. Shprecher completed a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Neurology residency at the University of Utah. He completed his movement disorders/experimental therapeutics fellowship and Masters in Clinical Investigation at the University of Rochester.
Inspired by personal experience as an individual with Tourette syndrome, he has dedicated his career to improving treatment options and quality of life for movement disorder patients.
Dr. Jesse Shriki is a board-certified intensivist specializing in cardiac critical care. In practice since 2009, Dr. Shriki began his career in emergency medicine before pursuing a fellowship in surgical critical care at the renowned R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center/University of Maryland Medical Center, where he focused on mechanical circulatory support and ECMO. Dr. Shriki is multiply boarded with certifications in Surgical Critical Care and Critical Care Echocardiography.
Since 2021, Dr. Shriki has been dedicated to managing complex cardiac surgical patients, serving as the director of both a tertiary care Cardiac Surgery ICU (CVICU) and a Cardiac ICU (CCU), with a focus on pre- and post-heart transplant care. Currently, Dr. Shriki is a cardiac intensivist at a busy cardiac center seeing over 100 heart transplants per year and over 200 ECMO patients per year. Dr. Shriki, additionally, completed a Neurocritical Care fellowship, with a unique clinical interest at the intersection of cardiac and neurocritical care, addressing the complex overlap of cardiac surgery, brain injury, and critical care recovery.
Dr. Jennifer Shuey, DO, is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Midwestern University’s Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she contributes her expertise to the Department of Osteopathic Family and Community Medicine. Board-certified in Family Medicine with Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT), Dr. Shuey is a distinguished graduate of the 2021 class of Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Shuey completed her residency in Family Medicine at Resurrection Hospital in Chicago, where she notably revitalized the developmental screening process. With broad practice in family medicine, she has been an advocate for osteopathy and family medicine at both state and national levels.
While practicing at a Catholic hospital Dr. Shuey advocated for her patients and obtained permission form the catholic church to prescribe contraception that was never allowed prior for medical concerns.
Dr. Steele graduated from Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2016. He went on to complete family medicine residency at Creighton-St. Joseph’s Medical Center in 2019. He completed his sports medicine fellowship at Banner University Medical Center in Phoenix. He currently works with Banner Health as a full-time primary care sports medicine physician. He practices full spectrum non-operative sports medicine including fracture management, diagnostic and interventional ultrasound procedures, regenerative medicine, and concussion. He also works as the team physician for several high schools across the valley.
In his spare time, he enjoys volunteering for various city sports events including Iron Man, Rock n’ Roll Marathon, and Pat’s Run. He also enjoys spending time with his wife Allison (AZCOM 2016), and two children.
Jeanne Varner Powell is the Senior Legal Risk Consultant for the Mutual Insurance Company of Arizona (MICA) Risk Team. In this role, she passes on to MICA insureds what she learned during 20 years of defending medical malpractice cases. She develops written content to educate physicians, advanced practice providers, and ambulatory care practices about medical professional liability risks. She consults with insured physicians and their practices on risk management issues, risk reduction strategies, and improving patient outcomes. In addition, she contributes articles to local medical societies and other health care professional organizations and gives presentations on risk management issues to students enrolled in graduate medical education programs.
Prior to joining MICA in 2020, Jeanne defended hospitals, nurses, care facilities, physicians, and other health care professionals in medical malpractice cases. Outside the office, you can usually find her horseback – either exploring new country or chasing cows. She is also an avid hiker and camper.
